What the app stores on your device

Everything below stays inside the app's own storage on your iPad. It is never transmitted, and it is removed when you delete the app.

• Vocabulary changes — words you add, edit, hide, or rename
• Photos you choose as button icons — resized to about 260 pixels and saved inside the app. They are not uploaded anywhere.
• Settings — speaking rate, pitch, selected voice, and whether labels show English or pinyin

What the app does not do

• Does not create an account or ask for a name, email, or any identifier
• Does not connect to the internet — the app is fully offline
• Contains no advertising of any kind
• Contains no analytics, crash reporting, tracking, or third-party SDKs
• Does not use the microphone, location, contacts, or health data
• Contains no links out of the app and no in-app purchases

Children's privacy

TalkBoard Chinese is designed for young children, including children under 13.

We do not collect personal information from children, because the app collects no personal information from anyone. There is no mechanism in the app by which any data could be sent to us or to a third party.

We believe this design satisfies the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and comparable laws, because no personal data is collected, processed, or shared.

Settings and vocabulary editing sit behind a parental gate (an arithmetic question), so a child using the app cannot reach them unassisted.

Speech output

The app speaks using the text-to-speech voices built into iOS. This processing happens on your device and is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Photos

If you choose a photo as a button icon, iOS shows its standard photo picker. The app receives only the single image you select — never your photo library as a whole.

Backups

You can export your vocabulary to a file that you save yourself. That file is under your control and we never receive it. If you share it, note that it may contain names or photos you added.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address and the date above will be revised.
